About Alpenglow Mountain Escapes

Alpenglow Mountain Escapes respectfully acknowledge that our hikes take place on the traditional and unceded territories of the Sinixt (Lakes), Ktunaxa (Kootenay), Secwepemc (Shuswap), and Syilx (Okanagan) peoples. We honor their enduring connection to this land and strive to tread lightly, learn from, and respect the places we explore.

Founded from a deep love of mountains, wildlife, and wilderness, Alpenglow Mountain Escapes (AME) was created to offer immersive, meaningful outdoor experiences for adventurers of all skill levels. Whether you seek a gentle forest walk (Shinrin-Yoku), a challenging alpine hike, or an engaging exploration of local wildlife and ecology, Alpenglow Mountain Escapes offers experiences designed to connect you with the West Kootenays.

Join Alpenglow Mountain Escapes for transformative experiences that leave you inspired, rejuvenated, and more connected to the wild beauty of the West Kootenays.

We maintain small group sizes to facilitate meaningful connections with nature and enhance personal interactions between guests and your guide.

“Where Wilderness Meets Inner Discovery”

Meet Your Guide

I’m Karla Kuharic, Owner and Operator of Alpenglow Mountain Escapes (AME). I’m a certified Association of Canadian Mountain Guides (ACMG) Hiking and Snowshoeing Guide, and a Level 2 Grizzly Bear Viewing Guide with the Commercial Bear Viewing Association (CBVA). In 2025 I received my Forest Bathing (Shinrin-Yoku) Guide Certification, allowing me to offer mindful, nature-connection experiences that complement my adventure-based tours. Over the years, I’ve explored the rugged backcountry of British Columbia, climbed peaks in the Canadian Rockies and abroad, guided Grizzly Bear viewing tours along the West Coast and West Kootenays, and led Polar Bear expeditions in the Canadian Sub-Arctic and Arctic regions. Through all of these experiences, I’ve developed a deep respect for nature and a passion for sharing it with others. Safety is always my top priority, and I focus on educating guests about local ecology, fostering an appreciation for the natural world, and creating inclusive adventures where everyone can feel welcome and engaged. I look forward to spending the day with you!
