Meet your Hiking Guide

Karla Kuharic

Hello fellow hiking enthusiasts! I’m Karla, the owner/operator of Alpenglow Mountain Escapes, based in beautiful Nakusp, BC. I am an Association Canadian Mountain Guides (ACMG) Apprentice Hiking Guide and a PMBI Level 1 Professional Mountain Bike Instructor. I also hold certifications in Winter Travel, Occupational First Aid Level 3, and Non-Urban Emergency Care Level 3.

I began working in the Adventure Tourism sector in 1998 and switched gears in 2007 to a start a career in the marine industry on the inland ferries on the Upper Arrow Lakes. My true passion has brought me back to the mountains – a passion that I want to share with travelers from around the world.

I am the founder of the Alpine Club of Canada (ACC) Columbia Mountains Section, based in Revelstoke, BC, and I have been an active member of the ACC for many years. Being part of the ACC has given me ample opportunity to spend time in the mountains with like-minded adventurers to pursue my love for mountaineering, rock- and ice-climbing, and, of course, hiking! It has also allowed me to expand my leadership skills by completing the ACC The North Face Leadership Program.

I created Alpenglow Mountain Escapes to share with you what others have shared with me: the beauty, adventure and freedom that the mountains offer to all of us.

I look forward to spending a day hiking with you!
